Defamation

Since my arrest, there has been a strong defamatory campaign against me, mostly in Mexican media and in social networks. It is extremely risky for me to reply to such campaign before leaving India, and even more before my trial is over. If I disclose any information, I fear retaliation by some members of the police, so I did not want to do it while still in this country; if I had done it before the prosecution finished presenting its case (March 2019), I would have given it the opportunity to amend it; if I do it before my trial is over, the judge may not like it, which could have a negative influence in his decision. Even so, I will probably make public this site while still in India, but not before the end of my trial.

The police accuses me of having killed Cécile Denise Acosta Reynaud, of having previously broken one of her wrists and stabbed her in the leg, and of having burnt the corpse. Indian media accuse me mostly of the same. Depending on the particular publication, the tone might be pretty macabre or not so much, but the basic facts do not change.

Mexican media vary a lot. From Gatopardo, which tries to be as objective as possible (and was the only Mexican media coming to India to find out the facts), all the way to Sin Embargo, which in a “investigation” article (October 8-9, 2012) accuses me of being a violent person who harasses and beats women on a regular basis, and mentions elements which have not appeared anywhere else, like stating that the corpse of Cécile had been stabbed in the chest.

However, there are two situations which draw my attention particularly:

1) The mother of Cécile Denise Acosta Reynaud stated at court, during her deposition as a witness, that the police told her that I had cut Cécile’s throat. Such thing is not mentioned in the Charge Sheet. It would seem that the police lied to her in order to put her against me. In the Mexican newspaper Reforma ( October 1, 2012) it is stated that she affirms to have seen the corpse with “knife stabs”, “a cut at the jugular”, and “a broken neck”. Why are none of those elements present in the Charge Sheet?

2) Among the many private people who harass me in the Internet or have given anonymous statements, there is a recurring element: that I dismembered the body of Cécile. The story of the police is that a corpse was found, an autopsy was performed, then the skull and one femur were preserved, and the rest was incinerated. It does not appear in any media that I cut any part of the body. Then, how or where from does it arise the account that I dismembered the body?

Since my trial is due to end very soon, I do not have the time to treat in-depth the topic of the defamatory campaign against me. I hope to be able to do it soon.
